Spectacle Insurance – all spectacle wearers may enrol in the Harris Foundation Replacement Scheme whether dyslexic or not! The Harris Foundation recognises that spectacles or other aids are easily lost or damaged, especially when young people are involved. Traditional insurance is often very expensive and inconvenient to use but The Harris Foundation offers its own Replacement Scheme that offers the benefits of conventional insurance at a great price, is convenient to use and where benefits are transferable to other parties (for example friends and relatives) with no additional fee! This facility is an additional service and may be withdrawn by The Harris Foundation at any time and without notice. All spectacle wearers may join and spectacles do not need to have been supplied by The Harris Foundation.
Under The Harris Foundation’s plan, up to three claims a year may be made with the very reasonable cost of the Replacement Fee (that is similar to the “excess fee” with similar insurance policies) being made at the time of claiming. For spectacles that have frames that were supplied through The Harris Foundation, the Replacement Fee, even for complete replacement of frame and lenses, is only £45.00 (standard frames and prescriptions). If there is a non-standard frame (for example a branded, “designer” frame) or lenses with a prescription above a first range toric then there will be a small additional fee and these prices will be quoted individually by The Harris Foundation when a claim is made. The term "first range toric" refers to the power of the lenses that are specified on the prescription and first range toric prescriptions usually covers most straightforward spectacles. If there is a higher or more complicated prescription (for example if bifocals or other special lenses are claimed for) then the Replacement Fee will be quoted on an individual basis when a claim is required. In the majority of cases replacement is a simple matter but if there are difficulties in supplying individual frames (and some branded frames may not be available) then a similar replacement will be offered. This service does not affect the cost of the claim. The Harris Foundation’s Replacement Scheme, in addition to covering loss or damage in a similar way to conventional insurance policies, also covers changes in spectacle prescription. So if revised lenses are required because of a change in prescription following an eye test then the Replacement Scheme will cover the cost of replacement when a claim is made and the Replacement Fee paid. The cost of Replacement Scheme coverage for a year is either a one-time payment of £59.00 or it may be paid monthly at a cost of £1.35 per week by secure online payment or through your bank by standing order (which is secured by the bank and can not be changed without your knowledge). This is very safe and convenient - you only complete the forms once! This small payment offers coverage against loss or damage with up to three claims per year including claims for spectacles other than those of the holder of the Replacement Scheme.
