The Harris Foundation
Dr David Harris has spent many years of working with adults and children suffering from colour blindness, reading difficulty and dyslexia. The Harris foundation was established after David Harris invented a system of coloured lenses which were patented and received FDA approval. These original lenses continue to be used throughout the world.
Dr Harris has been particularly moved by the lack of self-esteem and bullying that children suffering from the effects of dyslexia often endure and was determined to develop a system which removed the appearance of colour. These new, neutral looking lenses look very much like normal sunglasses and are known as Harris Lenses. These lenses are currently only available from The Harris Foundation and its approved practitioners.
The Foundation was set up to train practitioners to perform a dyslexia assessment and determine which combination of lenses will give the most improvement in reading ability. Importantly the Harris Foundation provides a much needed information and advice helpline to parents who suspect that their child may be dyslexic and don’t know what to do to get help for dyslexia. Dr Harris routinely advises parents on the importance of getting a formal diagnosis of dyslexia which should be performed by an educational psychologist which will then entitle them to help within the educational system. Dyslexic adults may be entitled to disability grants and special educational equipment such as computers.
David Harris continues to research and investigate further applications of the Harris Lenses which have also been found to be of use in other neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and some types of visual impairment.
