What Results Can You Expect to Achieve When Using the Filters?
Everybody suffers from different levels of reading difficulty and results usually
depend on the extent of the individual's problems.
Clinical trials and ongoing research has shown that
on average you might expect to
achieve an immediate increase in reading speed and accuracy of between 15% and 70%
(measured with the Wilkins Rate of Reading test).
However, many have experienced increases that are much greater than this and in some cases over
250%. Whatever the initial results, reading ability generally continues to improve
as skills develop whilst using the filters.
As well as reading, self-esteem (that is sorely dented
in many dyslexics) can
also show remarkable improvements. As
time has moved on, adjustments and improvements have been made to the
filters so that they are very much improved over the earlier versions
that go back to the mid 1990’s.

As well as achieving significant increases in reading ability, most Harris
Foundation patients will also experience an increase in handwriting ability after a short
period of time.
This letter shows the contrast between a 14-year-old boy's handwriting
when wearing (the top half of the page) and without (the bottom
half) his special
lenses.

Sometimes the improvement in handwriting is
astounding. A Harris Foundation practitioner sent in this
picture, taken during the consultation, both before (at the top)
and with (at the bottom) the Harris Foundation glasses

Quotes (received from patients in the U.K.)

"The specs make his reading easier and have made a very big
difference. His outlook and his confidence have improved
enormously. We are really pleased, he wears them all the
time and now notices car number plates! He really missed
the glasses when they were broken."

"I am severely dyslexic and was
fed up and frustrated when I couldn't read. I have loads of
books that people have given me but I couldn't read them so
people would read to me. Now it's different and when
I have my specs I can read OK and just sometimes ask for
help." |

"The
lenses help with my English and sometimes my maths. My
writing is much neater and before, even my teacher
couldn't read it!" |

"It's a whole new world!
I don't keep reading the same line and losing my place.
I'm picking up so much with them on, it's
brilliant!" |

"Harris Filters have made such a difference to my daughter's life - in less
than one month she was reading better than most of her friends..."

"Just to let you know that thanks to the lenses, she says that they calm
down the text as she is reading. She has been moved up two grades in her
science subjects! She has even started reading books for leisure - something
I could never get her to do before."

"As a dispensing optician I was frustrated when I was unable to help children
who had normal vision but still could not "see" to read. After hearing about the
Harris Foundation and the benefits dyslexic sufferers were achieving with Harris
Filters, I wanted to become involved so that I could help. Most of the patients
I see are children, at three clinics in Kent. It is very rewarding to help an
individual overcome the difficulties of dyslexia and to see the positive effect
it can have on both themselves and their family."

Melanie, a Harris Foundation practitioner in Kent

“I wanted to
let you know that my glasses have arrived and they're
brilliant. The letters appear larger, leaner and much much
clearer. Without, the letters in comparison appear shorter and
fatter and move. I'm looking forward to reading my first book
for enjoyment rather than reading as a form of 'torture'.
Cathy (the practitioner) was
wonderful (and extremely patient). The difference with the
lenses was remarkable. Although the results showed a 25%
improvement it was far greater than that. With the filters I
could have carried on reading happily for sometime - without I
thought I was going to pass out - amazing.
I've
had so many people tell me that there was no problem and that I
was imagining it, or it was due to lack of confidence, or I was
just lazy, to be told that this was not the case has been a
tremendous boost in itself. On top of that to have the benefit
of these lenses is wonderful”
